Rhonda deVisser, CPA

Being a Partner at Acuity has been one of the most rewarding, challenging, and fun (I said that out loud) experiences of my professional career. I have had the opportunity to work with fantastic partners and friends as well as terrific clients from all walks of life.

Having grown up on a farm in Southern Alberta, as well as having previously worked at a farm machinery dealership, I have an appreciation for the rural community and the farmers/ranchers that have a huge impact on all of our lives.

With 25 years of experience in accounting and tax, I enjoy helping our clients with their tax and estate planning needs. Working with our clients and witnessing their success has been very rewarding.

Away from the office, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Nothing beats a good visit, a few games, and a lot of laughs.

Favorite hobby: This has evolved over the years from participating in sports, to watching my two boys participate in sports, to travelling whenever the opportunity arises.

Favorite holiday: Any place with a mix of sun, sand, and adventure. I have been blessed to travel a lot so to pick a favorite is tough. All of the travel we have done with the boys have been my favorite to share in their experiences of new places.

Most exciting and most terrifying moment: When your child gets their driver’s license and drives away from home without you!

Rory Duce, CPA

Being the old man of the office, I have seen the evolution of accounting from the abacus to the adding machine to the computer. Not to be outdone by the younger crowd, I am probably the most tech savvy of all here at Acuity.

With 30 years’ in public practice, I have experienced nearly all the profession can throw at me and try to bring this expertise to my clients. What I enjoy most are those times where I can sit down with clients and discuss their issues and provide relevant and viable solutions. Many times, these are not directly related to accounting or tax! I am also in charge of the firm’s audit clients, handle most of the IT and quality control needs of the practice and get to play in Excel Spreadsheets a lot!

I am originally from the Waterton Park area, so when away from the office, I love hiking and taking pictures in the mountains, playing slow pitch (if my old bones hold up) and live music events of all genres.

Favorite Quote: “Laughter is an instant vacation”, Milton Berle. I truly believe that having fun is essential to being successful.

Favorite Travel Destinations: Nothing beats Hawaii for a winter getaway! Iceland in the Fall was spectacular! If I weren’t an accountant, I’d be a Professional Hockey Pool General Manager or better yet, the GM of the Montreal Canadians!

Song that I most relate to: Blue Rodeo “Five Days In May” because after tax season ends on April 30, you won’t see me for the first five days in May! No really, that is my favorite song! It’s even my ringtone.

Tricia Berger, CPA

It is hard to believe it has been almost 20 years that I have been a part of the team we have at Acuity. Our team is made up of great people that make work very enjoyable, even during the very long tax season hours. Born and raised on a farm in a small town I love the community and spirit of Nanton and its surrounding areas.

I thoroughly enjoy working daily with a large variety of clients focusing on their businesses and finding ways to make them better. While providing business advice and tax solutions, I also focus on issues relating to GST.

Away from the office, I am usually chasing after our kids between their many activities or spending time with friends.

If I weren’t an accountant: I would find a way to travel the world. Travelling is definitely one of my most favorite things. I enjoy the adventure of travelling to new places and all of the experiences that they have to offer.

Favorite music: Anything that has a great beat and makes you smile!

My guilty pleasure: Watching the Olympics, winter or summer. For two weeks every two years that is what is on my television.

What I am known for at the office: Always being hungry, I am always in need of a stash of snacks.
